Mittådalen

Interested in culture and history? Turn off into Mittådalen on the way to Messlingen from Funäsdalen. Through the open mountain forest you soon arrive at the Sami village of Mittådalen, Mithe in South Sami, a Sami village where Sami culture is preserved. Here there is a shop where reindeer meat and hides can be bought.

If you continue along the road you come to the small, genuine mountain village of Messlingen, with the old rock paintings that bear witness to the place having been inhabited for 4,000 years. The road north takes you up over Flatruet, the highest public road in Sweden. A vast mountain plateau that offers panoramic views over the mountains. From here you can see, among others, Helagsfjället, the highest mountain in the area, with Sweden's southernmost glacier. Flatruet is an excellent starting point for hiking and is an example of an easy trip with fantastic views over the mountains.
