Lunndörrspasset is an old riding route over the Lunndörrsfjällen mountains, one of the oldest connections between Jämtland and Härjedalen. At the pass lies the STF Lunndörren mountain cabin, a small and genuine mountain cabin in the middle of the mountains south of Vålådalen. From Baggården you can see the Lunndörrsfjällen in the distance, for example from the cross-country ski tracks towards Väster-Stoljan.
A little history
Lunndörrspasset is an old riding route that has been used for over a thousand years and was an important link between Jämtland and Härjedalen. A Viking Age grave has been found along the route, in the northern part of the pass a few kilometres from the cabin. King Charles XI's postal riding road ran between Duved and Långå Skans, and the pass was part of the travel routes through the mountains.
Lunndörren mountain cabin
The mountain cabin has two guest cabins with a total of 26 beds, a toilet building, a woodshed and a sauna. The larger cabin has 20 beds in five four-bed rooms, and the smaller one has six beds. There are also tent sites nearby at the Lunndörrstjärnarna tarns.
The cabin lies south of Vålådalen and is part of the so-called Vålådalsfyrkanten. The easiest way to get here is from Vålådalen or from Vallbo, which are 14 and 12 kilometres from Lunndörren respectively.
What to see
From the cabin you can walk to Issjödalen, where natural pyramids from the Ice Age remain. The area is suitable for hiking in summer and for ski touring in winter.
